Visiting the Property

The how-to guide for guests of The Union Hill House.

Check-in & Access

You’ll enter the property via the green gate.

There is a keypad for the side door of the property. Enter the door code followed by the star (*) symbol. Press any button on the keypad when exiting to lock the door. The main front door cannot be opened via code.

There is a separate code for the cabin. Enter the door code followed by the star (*) symbol.

The gate may be open when you arrive and operating manually. If you wish to close the gate at night, simply ‘unlock’ it via the motorized arm on the righthand side; you will find a latch to flip up and can then move the gate arms closed. Just make sure to flip the latch down to re-lock the gate, as otherwise it will swing freely and break. This is also an option if you have trouble getting the gate to close or open automatically.

Tech & Connectivity

There is Wifi throughout the main home. The information will be provided to you on the booking platform. There is no Wifi in the cabin.

When connected to the Wifi, you will be able to cast your video to the upstairs and den televisions when connected to the Wifi. Just press the cast button within your video application and select the TV.

Interior Amenities

There are many amenities within the home to enjoy. Here are a few key things to know:

  • Heating & Cooling: There are two thermostats in the main home to control either heating or cooling. The first floor thermostat is located in the stairwell and the second floor thermostat is located directly across from the stairwell door (on the left hand side when you come up the stairs). The cabin offers a mini-split which can be controlled via remote. If you have questions on how to operate the cabin remote, please visit this video.

  • Blinds: Every bedroom is equipped with hand-adjusted blinds. Please be gentle when lowering or adjusting the blinds, as they are custom to the home and expensive to repair.

  • Coffee: We provide both a Keurig and standard coffee-maker, along with K-cups, for your morning brew.

  • Indoor Fireplace: The interior fireplace is not functional. Please see below for instructions on how to use the outdoor fireplace including in the listing.

  • Wine Refrigerator: The wine refrigerator is located in the first floor wet bar.

  • Steam Shower: The steam shower is located in the second floor bathroom. Press the power button and set the desired temperature. Be careful of the steam exiting from the floor pipe.

  • Bar: The upstairs bar offers glasses, tools and a preparation space for cocktails. Please note the keg is not available for use.

  • Games: We’ve provided a wide selection of games in the second floor bookcase. There are also additional puzzles and games in the stairwell cabinet for your use.

  • Outdoor Shower: Please only use biodegradable soaps for the outdoor shower.

Exterior Amenities

  • Hot Tub

    The hot tub is maintained at a temperature above 100 degrees at all times. It is critical that the cover remain on the hot tub when not in use (including the attachment of the straps, due to frequent high winds). The cover is at risk of flying away in high winds if not attached with
    straps.


    To open the hot tub, detach the buckles. Open the far side of the cover and fold over the other half. Pull down on the center bar to retract the hot tub. Perform these actions in reverse to return the cover.

  • Fireplace

    We offer an outdoor fireplace. There is firewood available for your use in the driveway and lighters in the kitchen drawers. Please do not leave the fireplace unattended.

  • Patio & Grill

    The grill is located inside the potting shed. Simply roll out the grill to use. Please do not place the grill on the porch. The trellised patio area is the perfect outdoor dining spot. There are lights available via a switch on the far left hand side of the trellis.

A few rules…

We only have a couple items we ask you to remember when enjoying our property. Here’s what to know:

  • Parties, visitors, undisclosed pets, events or additional guests are not allowed. Failure to follow this rule may result in the immediate cancellation of your reservation. Your guest count must match the guests on the property.

  • Please monitor children by the hot tub at all times. Use of the hot tub is at your own risk.

  • Please return and buckle the hot tub cover when not in use. There are frequent high winds in the area, and guests may incur a $500 fine if the cover is damaged due to detachment.

  • Please do not leave the outdoor fireplace unattended at any time whatsoever. The fire should always be monitored and should be turned off in high winds.

  • Please do not use the cabin fireplace.

  • The exterior barn and garage are unavailable for guest use.

 FAQs

  • We’re here to help! Just reach out via the booking platform or text us at (860) 980-0116. We are most responsive via the booking platform, as this us allows us to keep track of requests. For urgent matters, please call.

  • Please place excess trash in the exterior trash and recycling bins adjacent to the garage. Bins will be placed out Sunday afternoon for Monday pickup.

  • We offer the entire property to guests, including the cabin. Only the garage and the storage shed are off limits to guests, as well as some storage spaces or closets within the home.

  • We are located 15-20 minutes from Brenham and Round Top. These towns offer numerous restaurants, antique stores and shops for you to explore. Brenham also offers an expansive grocery store. There is a winery nearby, as well.

  • No - we aim to provide you a hotel-like experience, so we do not give you chores or tasks to complete. We just ask you let us know when you’re leaving so we can begin cleaning.

  • We simply ask you respect the property - this includes ensuring there are no parties, pets, events or additional guest visitors. Any parties or events will result in an immediate cancellation without refund.
